WHAT DO YOU GIVE ATTENTION TO?

YOUR ATTENTION...6 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Can I have your ATTENTION , please?
Great, now that I have your attention, can I let you know how valuable it really is? How much it is really worth. And why/how it has Everything to do with the success or failure of almost every part of your life; Relationships, Career, Academics, Physical/Mental Health and of course your walk with the Father.

I'll be sincere with you, a year ago , I was totally oblivious of the truths I'll be sharing in this article. I thought I was aware, but I wasn't. I wasn't conscious or deliberate enough about it, at least not as I am right now.
But I'll tell you one thing, since I realized these truths and became more conscious of them than i was, my life has greatly improved and I've become generally more productive and effective.

So let's cut straight to the chase...here are 7 truths you need to know about your ATTENTION:

1. EVERYONE WANTS IT: Yes, everyone wants your attention. The trader in the market, the preacher on the bus, the banker looking for clients, the Jehovah's Witness at your door, the teacher in a class, the lady/guy that's been winking at you, the person calling your phone right now, Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, TV/Radio channels, Ad Companies, the Entertainment industry (music, movies, sports etc), Banks Nwokeji, the devil , GOD...believe me, the list doesn't end here. Someone's probably asking right now, "Banks, what's so valuable about my attention that all these folks want it?" Well, in an attempt to answer that question, I came to the second realization.

2. EVERYONE WANTS A SHARE OF INFLUENCE OVER YOU: Yes, I know, this statement isn't the kind you nod in agreement to. You're probably thinking now, "Banks, isn't this conclusion of yours going too far?"
But the truth my friend is (whether we know/admit it or not), people want to influence/control (to a certain degree) our thinking, choices, decisions, preferences, perception, values and actions [either for good or bad].

The politician wants to influence your choice/decision to vote for him.
The banker wants to influence you to put your money in his bank.
Facebook wants you to spend at least one hour of your time everyday, viewing photos/videos, reading posts, liking and sharing.
The devil wants to keep you away from the FATHER
The FATHER wants you to believe on the Son
Banks Nwokeji wants to expose you to #TRUTH
And the list goes on.
"But wait, what has my attention got to do with this?" Well, I'll pretend like you aren't still asking that. But here's the thing; people cannot exert any influence on you until they have your attention.
In other words, anything/anyone you don't give your attention to cannot influence you.

"But Banks, how does my attention help others influence me?" Take a look at the third realization.

3. ANYTHING/ANYONE YOU GIVE YOUR ATTENTION TO, LEAVES A PART OF IT IN YOUR MIND: Did you know that your TIME is your most valuable resource (not your money, house etc)? But more crucial than your time is your ATTENTION_ because your attention is the part of your time that carries your consciousness (mind).  Attention is the act of applying your Mind to something/someone_ and whatever you apply your mind to deposits on your mind. Consequently, the deposits and contents in/of your mind will determine things like your attitude, beliefs, values, habits, choices, decisions and character. And believe me, these things have everything to do with your life; who you are and where you're headed.

4. YOUR ATTENTION IS A CURRENCY: Did you know that the number one currency in this age of ours (the information age) is not the Pounds, Euro, Dollar and obviously not the Naira. It's Attention, yours and mine. The Biggest corporations in the world knows, the most influential people in the world today knows it, Facebook knows it, Instagram knows it_ but sadly, very few of us have realized it yet.
Your attention is the "money" you use to buy things into your mind (and consequently into your life). That's why you should spend it wisely. In fact, you should find it easier to give people your money than your attention. Remember, you will only find (in you) the things you have bought with your attention. So the question is, what are currently buying with your attention?

5. YOUR ATTENTION IS A LIMITED RESOURCE: Just like any currency, your attention is in limited supply_ and it's very important you realize this. What this means is that you can only give your attention to very few things/people at a time. This realization makes it dawn on you that you have a responsibility questions  on what and whom you spend your attention on.
You simply cannot afford to let your attention be all over the place. If you don't take charge of your own attention, I bet you there are tons of things/people out there that are readily available to keep you (your mind) occupied (distracted).
What do you really want (in life)? What kind of person do you want to become?
The answers to these questions should decide what and who you give your attention to.

6. YOUR ATTENTION CAN BE INVESTED: Just like any other resource, your attention can be invested for future gains. Do you realize that everything you are really good at right now, are the things that you have given most of your attention to over the years? The reason is; you only excel at the things you give more attention to. For example the reason one person would be called a medical doctor and not the other, is because one has given his attention to medicine for about 6 - 8 years and the other did not.
Question; On what are you currently investing your attention?
Make a list of the top 3 things/people that have most of your attention everyday.
Then ask yourself, are they really worth it? Will the attention I invest in them really pay off something useful in the future?
Remember, we are always investing our attention, we are either investing it wisely or wrongly.

So, Take charge of your ATTENTION today!
